After 1 treatment

Traditional Skin Resurfacing – the entire surface of the skin is exposed to the laser, effectively removing all the older skin to expose the fresh new skin below.

Fractional Laser Resurfacing – only exposes part of the skin surface to the laser, leaving uninjured skin surrounding the treatment site that acts as a barrier, promoting a rapid return to daily routine.

We currently recommend fractional laser resurfacing techniques, as they achieve similar results to traditional methods with fewer side effects and reduced downtime.

Our Cambridge Laser Clinic offers both Er Yag 2940nm and CO2 10,600nm ablative lasers in both traditional and fractional modes ensuring optimal results.
We do not offer non-ablative treatments including Fraxel Restore (1550nm) and Fraxel Dual (1550nm and 1927nm) because:

  • both platforms require expensive consumables
  • results are inferior to the more advanced ablative treatments

The Er Yag 2940nm laser is an ideal choice for both superficial and medium depth skin resurfacing. This advanced laser can penetrate the skin to depths of 200-300 um (0.20- 0.3mm). Normal daily activities can be resumed quickly within a period of 2-3 days. It is our recommended laser choice for darker skin types due to its excellent safety profile.

The CO2 10,600nm laser is recommended for both medium depth and deep skin resurfacing. This aggressive laser can penetrate the skin to depths of 750- 1000um (0.75- 1.0mm). Downtime ranges from 7-10 days. It is the laser of choice for lighter skin types with more severe imperfections.

These high powered resurfacing lasers deliver the most aggressive and complicated treatments we perform and in our professional opinion should only be operated by the most experience physicians.

All skin resurfacing procedures at our Cambridge Laser Clinic are performed personally by Dr S N Holt. He has delivered in excess of 5000 laser resurfacing procedures over a 15 year period and is regarded as one of the UKs leading experts.
