How does the treatment work?

Lasers emit high energy at a specific wavelength (or colour) in a single beam. Intense pulsed light (IPL) is broadband light and delivers hundreds of wavelengths (or colours) in a single discharge. Both lasers and IPL are able to specifically target blood (haemoglobin) in the skin without damaging surrounding tissues. The light energy is absorbed by blood inside the veins, heating up the vessel wall, which collapses and then dissolves.

Which laser and IPL systems do we use?

Our Cambridge Laser Clinic offers the entire range of laser systems to ensure superior removal of unwanted facial veins

  • V Beam pulse dye laser (PDL) 595nm for gold standard treatment of superficial and deeper diffuse redness, flushing and smaller blood vessels
  • KTP 532nm LP Laser for the treatment of superficial larger bright red discrete blood vessels
  • Nd Yag 1064nm LP Laser for the treatment of deeper larger purple/blue discrete blood vessels and the treatment of flushing.
  • Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) 540-950nm for the treatment of superficial diffuse redness and smaller blood vessels
  • Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) 570-950nm for the treatment of deeper diffuse redness and smaller blood vessels

What does the treatment feel like?

The energy is delivered in very short bursts of light called pulses. As the laser light penetrates the skin’s surface the sensation is similar to the snap of a thin rubber band. The procedure produces only mild discomfort and usually normal activities can be resumed immediately.

Are there any side effects?

In rare cases redness and irritation of the treated area may occur (like sunburn). There is also a small risk of pigment change following treatment. A small minority of patients develop bruising and blistering. This settles within days.

Who performs the treatment?

Our expert medical team has in excess of 30 years laser experience and have completed more than 150,000 successful treatments. Rest assured you are in safe hands. All procedures at our Cambridge Laser Clinic are performed by fully qualified doctors, nurses and practitioners.

To ensure the highest ethical standards are maintained at all times, our staff are never offered bonus incentives to sell treatments.

How many treatments are needed?

1 or 2 treatments are usually required at monthly intervals for discrete facial veins.

2 to 4 treatment sessions are usually required at monthly intervals for diffuse redness

Is laser treatment safe?

There is no evidence whatsoever to suggest laser treatment can lead to skin disorders or increase the risk of skin cancer.
Although medical laser clinics are no longer regulated by the CQC (Care Quality Commission), we continue to adhere to the strict standards that were in the past mandatory under government legislation. This is the best indicator currently available that our Cambridge Laser Clinic is trustworthy.

Our lasers are cleared by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and have full CE clearance for Europe.
