Skin tag

Skin tags are small flesh coloured or brown growths that protrude from the surface of your skin. They range from a few millimetres to 5 centimetres in length. They are harmless and do not usually cause pain or discomfort. Skin tags can snag on clothing or jewellery and bleed or cause cosmetic concern due to size and location.

What causes skin tags?

Skin tags most commonly occur within skin creases on the neck, armpits, eyelids, breast and groin regions where natural movement causes the skin to rub against itself.

They have a genetic risk and are more common in Type 2 diabetes, pregnancy and obesity.

Skin Tag Removal

The following options are available for skin tag removal:

Surgical Removal – Treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic. Once numb, the skin tag is carefully cut away or shaved off.

Cryotherapy – The skin tag is frozen with liquid nitrogen. Further treatment may be needed if the skin tag does not fall away completely.

If you require a minor surgical procedure, why not book a consultation with our highly experienced consultant plastic surgeon to determine which treatment option is best for you.

Our clinic is Care Quality Commission registered and operates by strict safety and care protocols.
