Pre-treatment advice
We recommend you abstain from alcohol for 24 hours prior to laser treatment.
What happens during the procedure ?
A small laser handpiece is inserted into the mouth and the soft palate is gently treated . Every 1-3 laser shots is followed by a brief pause providing a short relaxation break for patient comfort.
How long does the procedure last ?
The laser treatment takes less than 15 minutes to complete.
Is the treatment painful ?
The procedure is virtually pain free and anaesthesia is not required. Occasionally patients report a mild stinging or heat sensation in the throat.
What happens after the treatment ?
We recommend only pure water at room temperature for the first 2 hours post procedure. No cold drinks, carbonated drinks, ice cream, alcohol or cigarettes are advised for the next 24 hours. You may experience a mild sore throat for 24-48 hours following the procedure and snoring may be increased for the first 2 nights due to slight swelling (oedema) of the soft palate. After 1 week snoring should start to reduce and optimal results will be evident at 2-4 weeks.
How many treatment are needed ?
We recommend 3 treatments at monthly intervals. A top up treatment may be required every 6 months to 1 year.
