Tackling acne with laser treatment

Acne is a condition that can impact self esteem and feelings of confidence. It is caused by an excess production of oil, a buildup of dead skin cells and growth of bacteria in the pores.

Although acne affects more people when they are teenagers it can strike at any age and it commonly appears on the face, chest and back.

Is it worth seeing a dermatologist for acne treatment?

If you are suffering with acne and would like to find a treatment that works you can either visit your GP or an independent dermatologist.

Although it is necessary to see a medically qualified doctor if you want to deal with your acne symptoms, you may find that it’s a longer process if you see your GP than if you were to visit a private dermatologist.

At Cambridge Laser Clinic we offer a doctor led independent dermatology service. Our practitioners are skin specialists who have many years of experience treating patients who have also been suffering with skin concerns like acne.

The practitioners at Cambridge Laser Clinic understand how to effectively treat different types of acne and can offer a quick and precise diagnosis and prescribe the best treatment for your specific type of acne.

What treatments are best for acne?

There are a number of different treatments that can be used for acne and sometimes it may be necessary to use a combination of treatments to get the best results.

Active acne may need the concurrent use of topical antibiotics, retinoids, oral antibiotics or may require hormonal manipulation.

Laser technology is highly effective at reducing unwanted red inflamed acne without the need for lots of medications and appointments.

How does Laser treatment help acne?

At the Cambridge Laser Clinic we are 1 of only 4 clinics in the UK to own V Beam Pima, a PDL 595nm & Nd YAG 1064nm laser technology. This device is the most advanced platform within the V Beam range and is the most peer reviewed laser ever manufactured.

PDL 595nm laser technology was described by Dr Tony Chu, Consultant Dermatologist at Hammersmith Hospital in West London as:

“The biggest breakthrough in the treatment of Acne Vulgaris in 20 years”

The laser treats acne by emitting a yellow light that kills the bacteria. It heats the skin around the spots which increases collagen production. The increase in collagen production helps the skin to heal and it also alters the body’s immune response which in turn, dampens down the risk of reinfection.

When will I see results from acne laser treatment?

You can expect to see results 2-4 weeks after your first treatment. For optimal results you will most likely need to have a course of 3 treatments at monthly intervals. The results can last up to 9 months and you can have a top up treatment after this if you feel your acne is coming back.
