eyebrow removal with laser

Eyebrow tattoo removal at Cambridge Laser Clinic

From the pencil thin eyebrows in the 1930s, through to the natural bushy Brooke Shield eyebrows in the 1980’s, the way you wear your eyebrows can define the era you have been born into.

Until recently, if you were not blessed with a bushy pair of brows, or if you had lived through the fashion of the ‘over plucked look’, your only real option was to grab an eyebrow pencil and use your artistic skill to give the impression of having a full set of brows.

The 90’s sought to eradicate the problem of having to draw on your eyebrows, and voila, the eyebrow tattoo was born! The eyebrow tattoo is an innovative idea that saves people time and as technology and skill improves there are many fabulous permanent make-up artists who can create you a beautiful set of natural looking brows.

Unfortunately, fashion changes and tattoos fade, so if you are in a position where you no longer like your eyebrow tattoos, it might be time to consider how to remove them.

Can laser treatment remove my eyebrow tattoos?

The quick answer is yes! Laser treatment can remove your eyebrow tattoos, whether you’ve had your eyebrows tattooed or micro-blading.

The removal of cosmetic tattoos (most commonly tattooed eyebrows) invariably requires the use of two or three different laser wavelengths. The reason for this is the oxidation of tattoo pigment through a range of different colours as the tattoo pigment gradually fades.

Cambridge Laser Clinic is the only clinic in the UK to offer the Quanta Discovery Pico Plus laser. This is the most advanced Laser Tattoo removal platform in the world.

It delivers the following :

  • Pico (450ps) & Active Q switched (6ns) Nd Yag 1064nm both in traditional and fractional modes for the removal of black, dark blue, white, grey and brown ink
  • Active Q switched (30ns) Ruby 694nm both in traditional and fractional modes for the treatment of black, sky blue, yellow and green
  • Pico (370ps) & Active Q switched (6ns) KTP 532nm both in traditional and fractional modes for the treatment of red, dark blue, orange and purple ink

It is not uncommon to commence treatment with a brown coloured tattoo pigment and observe the following :

  • Treatment 1 causes oxidation to a black pigment.
  • Treatment 2 causes oxidises to green pigment.
  • Treatment 3 causes oxidation to red pigment.
  • Treatment 4 causes oxidation to orange pigment.
  • Treatment 5  causes oxidation to yellow pigment.
  • Treatment 6 results in full removal of the pigment.

Each pigment change requires treatment with a different laser wavelength.

“In our professional opinion this procedure should only be delivered by an expert laser operator who has access to at least 3 laser wavelengths for the following reasons”.

  • Safety concerns – the treatment is very close to the orbital margin (eye socket) and the risk of permanent eye injury is increased.
  • If a clinic does not have the correct laser wavelengths, the result is treatment stops at that colour and the clinical end point is often eyebrows that may cosmetically look worse than the original starting point.

How long does it take to remove eyebrow tattoos with laser treatment?

Eyebrow tattoo removal with a laser is a relatively quick treatment as the surface area to be treated is usually small. There are multiple variables that significantly impact on the number of sessions required to fully remove unwanted eyebrow tattoos. These primarily include

  • depth of pigment
  • pigment type used
  • number of reworks

In our experience the number of sessions at monthly intervals range from 1 to 12

Typical costings are £150 per session
