Best Ways to Remove Unwanted Facial Hair

There are a lot of people who suffer from unwanted hair on certain parts of their body, and the face is a commonly affected area. As the face is always on show, unwanted hair can be hugely distressing and upsetting. It could cause someone to feel self-conscious and unhappy with the way their face looks, and self-esteem can take a hit. It can also impact the way that makeup looks once applied. Luckily, there are a number of ways to remove unwanted facial hair. Below, we have taken a look at the best ways to remove unwanted facial hair.

Common Treatments to Remove Unwanted Facial Hair

  • Shaving – Shaving is the ‘go-to’ treatment for a lot of people who want to remove hair from their legs or underarms, and men often use it to remove unwanted facial hair. However, it’s slowly becoming a popular treatment for women too. With the advancement of shaving products for women, more women are choosing to shave their faces. Unfortunately, it’s not a long-lasting treatment, and regrowth can start in a matter of days.
  • Laser Hair RemovalLaser hair removal is definitely one of the best ways to remove unwanted facial hair, and it’s the treatment of choice for a lot of people. It’s quick, effective and has permanent results. Though it’s one of the more expensive ways to remove facial hair, the results are longer lasting.
  • Plucking – Plucking is an effective way of removing unwanted facial hair, but it can be time-consuming. Removing each individual hair is certainly not a quick task, and it’s something a lot of people find painful. It has the benefit of being low cost and convenient, as there is no need to buy anything other than a pair of reusable tweezers.
  • Waxing – Waxing is certainly one of the most popular ways to remove unwanted facial hair, especially from the upper lip, and it’s relatively effective. Within seconds, hair can be removed from key areas of the face, and a smooth surface is left behind. However, waxing can be painful, and the results are not long-lasting. Within a few weeks, the treatment will be needed again to remove any regrowth.
  • Hair Removal Creams – Many people choose to use hair removal creams as it’s a completely painless way of removing unwanted facial hair. Once the cream has been applied and a specific amount of time has passed, hair is easily wiped away and removed. Though hair removal cream can be expensive to buy, it’s an effective treatment option.

Though these methods can be effective, a lot of them only provide short-term results, and they do not permanently solve the problem of unwanted facial hair. Shaving, plucking, shaving, and hair removal creams all require regular treatments in order to keep on top of things. This can be time-consuming and costly, and some people do find these treatments painful. However, this isn’t the case with laser hair removal, which is why it’s a popular option.

Compared to the other ways of removing unwanted facial hair, laser hair removal is a more effective treatment. It’s also relatively painless and quick, and it provides long-term results. Though it does tend to be more expensive than other hair removal treatments, the results are permanent.

The Different Lasers Used to Remove Unwanted Facial Hair

There isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to hair and skin types, which means that laser treatment for unwanted facial hair is a treatment that needs to be tailored. To do this effectively, different lasers are used. At Cambridge Laser Clinic, we have four different lasers to choose from. The laser used is chosen depending on your hair and skin type, and choosing the right one ensures that we can offer an effective and permanent hair removal solution. It’s a key part of making sure that optimum results are achieved.

  • Alexandrite 755nm LP Laser – This laser is suitable for fair skin types (Fitzpatrick skin types I-III), light and dark hair, coarse and fine hair. It’s a versatile laser that is generally used on large body areas.
  • Diode 810nm LP Laser – This laser is most suitable for slightly darker skin types (Fitzpatrick skin types IV-V) and dark hair.
  • Nd Yag 1064nm LP Laser – This is the laser we tend to use for darker skin types (Fitzpatrick skin type VI), and for large and deep hairs. It’s also effective at removing ingrown hairs.
  • IPL 650 – 950nm Light Source – This is a slightly different laser, and it’s available at the client’s request.

When it comes to removing unwanted facial hair using lasers, choosing the right laser is key. This is the easiest way to guarantee an effective hair removal treatment that results in permanent hair removal.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Treatment Work?

Despite being one of the best ways to remove unwanted hair, a lot of people are unsure of how laser hair removal treatment actually works. When directed at an area of unwanted facial hair, lasers emit a short pulse of light onto the surface of the skin. When this comes into contact with the hair follicle, it heats the area and this damages the germination centre. As the germination centre is responsible for hair regrowth, this prevents any new hair from growing in that area.

Whereas a lot of ways of removing unwanted facial hair require regular and ongoing treatments, laser hair removal does not. You will need around 6 to 8 treatments at intervals of 6 to 10 weeks, but then the hair is removed permanently.

Professional Laser Hair Removal

Though there are a number of ways to remove unwanted facial hair, there is no denying the benefits of laser hair removal treatment. It’s a long-term solution to having unwanted facial hair, and it reduces the amount of time and energy you need to spend keeping on top of hair removal by other methods.
